About Expedition

Giripremi’s two experienced mountaineers – Vivek Shivade & Jitendra Gaware attempted Mt. Ama Dablam in Oct 2019.

It was Giripremi’s first ever expedition to Mt. Ama Dablam and both the climbers made it to the top on 29th Oct 2019.

  • Ama Dablam means “Mother’s necklace”; the long ridges on each side like the arms of a mother (ama) protecting her child, and the hanging glacier thought of as the dablam, the traditional double-pendant containing pictures of the gods, worn by Sherpa women.
  • One of the most technically challenging climbs in Nepal Himalaya
  • Yellow Tower & Grey Tower are the difficult rock & ice climbing sections that tests climbers’ skills
  • Mt. Ama Dablam is known as ‘Matterhorn of Himalaya’.
  • First successful ascent of Mt. Ama Dablam was on the 13th of March 1961. Mike Gill (NZ), Barry Bishop (USA), Mike Ward (UK) and Wally Romanes (NZ) attempted the peak via the Southwest Ridge.
