Jitendra Gaware Summits Mt. Makalu – First Maharashtrian to have climbed seven of fourteen 8,000m peaks

Makalu (8,485 m) on 10 May 2025 at 4:50 AM, the fifth-highest mountain in the world. This remarkable achievement marks him as the first Maharashtrian to have climbed seven of the fourteen 8,000-meter peaks, a testament to his unwavering dedication and exceptional mountaineering prowess.

In 2022, Jitendra made history by becoming the first Indian to summit Annapurna I, Mount Everest, and Mount Manaslu in a single season—a rare and commendable feat in the mountaineering community. Jitendra is a proud recipient of the Shiv Chhatrapati Award, Maharashtra’s highest sports honor, acknowledging his significant contributions to mountaineering.His journey has been guided by the mentorship of Umesh Zirpe, a veteran mountaineer and recipient of the Tenzing Norgay National Adventure Award.

His achievement today is not only personal but a glorious chapter in Maharashtra’s mountaineering history.” Overcoming Challenges on Mt. Makalu Mt. Makalu is renowned for its steep ascents, knife-edged ridges, and unpredictable weather conditions, with temperatures plummeting between -35°C to -40°C.Despite these challenges, Jitendra reached the summit at 4:50 AM on May 10, 2025, showcasing his resilience and technical expertise
