Pune, India – 25 July 2025:
Giripremi proudly announces the flag-off of its ambitious Mt. Meru (Central) and Mt. Samgyal Dawa Expeditions, a historic endeavor that could see India’s tricolour on the summit of Mt. Meru (Central) for the first time in mountaineering history.
The ceremonial flag-off took place at the hands of Smt. Sheetal Teli-Ugale (I.A.S.), Commissioner, Sports & Youth Services, Maharashtra, and Shri. Sunil Koparkar, Managing Director of IAC International Automotive India Pvt. Ltd., at Ganesh Hall, DES School, Tilak Road, Pune, Maharashtra.
Words from the Flag Off Ceremony
At the flag-off, Smt. Sheetal Teli-Ugale (I.A.S.) praised Giripremi’s persistence: “It is inspiring to see such determination. These expeditions represent not just adventure, but the spirit of India – courage, unity, and resilience.”
Shri. Sunil Koparkar added: “Giripremi’s mountaineers carry not just equipment, but the pride of a nation. We wish them a safe climb and glorious success.”
A Historic Attempt – Mt. Meru (Central)
This August, Giripremi mountaineers will set forth on a formidable challenge for the third time in a row — summiting Mt. Meru (Central), a peak renowned in the mountaineering world for its technical difficulty, sheer granite walls, and extreme alpine conditions.
While multiple expeditions from around the globe have attempted this challenging ascent, India has never claimed the summit. Giripremi’s mission is to change history by raising the Indian flag on the top of Mt. Meru (Central) for the very first time..
Twin Challenge – Mt. Samgyal & Mt. Dawa (Ladakh)
Alongside the Meru expedition, a team of young, rising Giripremi mountaineers will take on the dual challenge of Mt. Samgyal and Mt. Dawa in the stunning Ladakh region.
This venture serves as a crucial stepping stone for the next generation of Indian climbers, offering them high-altitude experience in challenging terrains while building leadership, technical expertise, and resilience.
Looking Ahead – August 2025 and Beyond
As the teams head for their respective challenges, Giripremi calls upon well-wishers, supporters, and the adventure community to rally behind them. Every expedition is not just about reaching the top — it’s about inspiring a nation to dream bigger, climb higher, and persevere against the odds.
With safety as the utmost priority and the blessings of the mountains, Giripremi looks forward to returning with stories of courage, camaraderie, and hopefully, a historic summit success.
