After the overwhelming success of Giripremi’s first all women expedition to Kangyatse I & II, Giripremi’s next team of four women mountaineers tacked the challenge of Mt. Gangotri I (6672 m), one of the tallest peak of Gangotri range in Garhwal Himalayas of Uttarakhand.
The team was led by Purva Singh under the guidance of Shivchhatrapati Awardee Umesh Zirpe.
Being in different cities, current pandemic situation contributed more challenges in their fitness training and expedition preparations. These dedicated women overcame these problems and are finally made the challenge of Mt.Gangotri I successful on 29th September 2021.
Purva Shinde Singh and Sneha Talvatkar reached to the summit and unfurled India’s tricolour with pride.
Terrible snowfall that ominous weather had brought in the valley for many days, tried to hamper the team’s morale. But immensely determined Purva and Sneha didnt yeild. They waited patiently for a precise weather to set and and made a summit push that everyone in Giripremi shall be proud of.
Other team members Ritu Chawla, Sunita Kolke, and Hemang Tanna showed amazing team spirit in cotributing towards the success. Due to time constraints they had to turn around from camp 2.
Gangotri I success marks a historic moment in Giripremi as the club celebrates 6 consecutive successful ascents in Himlaayas just within 6 months.
Gangotri I is the tallest peak of the Gangotri Massif of Garhwal Himalayas
It stands at the height of 6672 mtr.
The range lies in Rudugaira valley that originates from a holy town of Gangotri in Garhwal Himalaya.
