Giripremi’s Pune Everest 2012 has been the landmark moment in the history of India’s mountaineering. 8 Giripremi mountaineers – Prasad Joshi, Ashish Mane, Tekraj Adhikari, Krishna Dhokle, Rupesh Khopade, Rahul Yelange, Chetan Ketkar, and Surendra Jalihal reached the summit of world’s highest mountain Everest on 19th May 2012 under Umesh Zirpe’s leadership. It was the biggest successful civilian expedition to Mt. Everest.
The motive behind this expedition was to promote the sport of mountaineering & instill the importance of adventure education among Indian society.
In retrospect, as we see now, truly Maharashtra’s mountaineering has tremendously progressed and countless individuals, especially the youth have imbibed values of adventure through this sport.
